Desire

(Patrick Gallagher)
Strong desire is like wanting something that you can never have, but keeps you climbing that hill. I wrote this while vacationing up in Cambridge, Idaho, at my Aunt Millie’s place. I was reading the old classic, “Think and grow rich”. There’s an inspiring section on desire, and on how to focus your desire effectively on achieving goals in life. I realized that I desired more than I knew at the time. The woman that I sing about is half real, and half ghost, and “ always just beyond my reach”. Desire to me is fuel we all need in order to achieve our dreams.

Lyrics

Like a scratch, make it start to bleed, well want her but I just don’t need
She’s a fire burning in my chest, and I cannot sleep, I cannot rest
Like a ghost that I wanna know, she’s anywhere that I go
But she’s always just beyond my reach

Desire, burnin desire, she is desire, burnin, burnin…

I can see it swimming in her eyes, and it’s more than money, more than fame
Someone’s banging on a distant drum, someone’s laughing in the cold rain
I could never really spell it out, and I could never really pin it down
Still she’s always just beyond my reach

Desire, burnin desire, she is desire, burnin, burnin…

Might not make it, might not make it, might
Not ever figure her out

Like a scratch, make it start to bleed, well want her but I just don’t need
She’s a fire burning in my chest, and I cannot sleep, I cannot rest
Like a ghost that I wanna know, she’s anywhere that I go
But she’s always just beyond my ..
she’s always just beyond my…
she’s always just beyond my reach.
