Girl from south of Mexico
(Patrick Gallagher)
I’m fascinated by the paranormal. I was reading Carlos Castaneda while I wrote this, which is why the woman I am singing about is holding flowers of mescaline, and has psychic powers. The story carries strong images of sleeping in the desert, in front of the fire at night, with a psychic South American beauty. It’s fun for me to create places to escape to, and leave my troubles of daily life behind. I attempted to create a place for the listener to go as well.
Lyrics
There’s a girl that I know
From south of Mexico
She speaks English poquito
But her eyes see around the globe
She says there’s things she can see
invisible to you and me
she likes to stare at the stars
while she sits on the hood of my car
Ooh……
We sleep out in the desert tonight
As the fire burns red, orange and white
I got a blanket and a bottle of gin
She holds flowers of mescaline
Well it’s strange but now and again
She’ll say nothing, make me feel like I’m ten
And when I stare into her eyes
I see thousands of years going by..
Ooh……
There’s a girl that I know
From south of Mexico
She speaks English poquito
But her eyes see around the globe
