Horsehair
(Patrick Gallagher)
This is the oldest song in the collection here. It is a children’s song mostly, about a day at the animal fair, and the child-like magic that it brings. It’s very simple; with strong images that hopefully makes you feel like you are standing on straw and dirt, while smelling cotton candy and hot dogs. It is very optimistic, and fun. This is the last song on the CD that I hope you drift off to sleep on the couch listening to.
Lyrics
Look over here, look over there
Children at the fair, tugging on horsehair, tugging on horsehair
I am a clown, and then you laugh
Don’t you want to know why, don’t you?
And soon we will be sleeping,
And all the time we will be dreaming
That we’re still there
Soon they will come, they’ll come from miles around
To this little town, for clean country air, at the animal fair
For just one day
The pigs will roll, the mud will fly,
Don’t you want to know why, what’s the reason?
There’s no reason, they don’t need no reason
And soon we will be sleeping,
And all the time we will be dreaming
That we’re still there, we’re still there, still there..
we’re still there, we’re still there, still there..
Look over here, look over there,
Why should you even care
Tugging on horsehair, tugging on horsehair
