Patrick Gallagher: Music

Sunburn

(Patrick Gallagher)
This is a song about being extremely white. I am mostly Irish, and burn very easily. Growing up in Southern California, I spent a lot of time at the beaches, and often would get really burned by the sun. This song is about me dating a very hot, dark, tan woman who loves the beach, and spends most of her days laying out in the sun there. I try to keep seeing her until it becomes apparent that I am just too white for us to continue dating.

Lyrics

When I smile my lips begin to crack
I can feel the heat shootin up and down my back
All my friends hide and lounge in the shade
While I’m waitin in the sun for my blisters to peel and fade

My sunburn reminds me of you
My sunburn reminds me of you

I’m knocking at your door to get my solarcain
‘cause I’m heading up north to the pleasant wind and rain
gonna live in tall trees with all the bucked-toothed girls
with pale white skin, not of this world

My sunburn reminds me of you
My sunburn reminds me of you

We used to lay in the sand, I was bacon in your hand
Melanoma bikini girl, I gotta leave, leave your world
Here the sun is set to broil, on black skin like motor oil
I’m on fire because of you, I wanna go back ,what can I do?

My sunburn reminds me of you
My sunburn reminds me of you
